IN THE SPIRIT OF GIVING, TONIGHT WE’RE FEATURING AN ORGANIZATION THAT HELPS VETERANS MANCHESTER’S LIBERTY HOUSE NOT ONLY PROVIDES A SHELTER FOR HOMELESS VETS, BUT ALSO THEY RUN A FOOD PANTRY THERE. AND LAST YEAR THEY GAVE OUT MORE THAN 12,000 FOOD ITEMS TO COMMUNITY VETERANS. THIS YEAR, THEY’VE ALREADY DOUBLED THAT, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SAYS THE NEED IS GREAT, WITH 112 NEW VETERANS REGISTERING THIS YEAR. A Manchester organization dedicated to helping homeless veterans is hoping to help even more this year.Manchester's Liberty House not only provides a shelter for homeless veterans, but it also runs a food pantry.Last year, the organization gave out more than 12,000 food items to veterans in the community. This year, it has already doubled that number.Executive director Jeff Nelson said the need is great, with 112 new veterans registering this year."Unfortunately, a lot of those community vets that are coming in are elderly couples, he said. "And they're not coming in for luxury items. They're coming in for basic necessities, which is very unfortunate to see."The most needed items are toiletries, gas cards and grocery store cards.
