Investigators say drugs found in room of Tyler Greenhalgh

An 11-year-old girl is recovering after police in Nashua said she overdosed on fentanyl.The child survived after first responders administered Narcan to her, police said.Investigators said that last Thursday, the girl was home alone with another 11-year-old on Underhill Street in Nashua, when police got a report that a child was unconscious after she overdosed on fentanyl.Police said the girl regained consciousness after she received Narcan and before she was taken to a hospital.>> Download the free WMUR app to get updates on the go: Apple | Google Play <<Investigators said the girl found the drugs in the room of Tyler Greenhalgh, 31, who police said had a history of drug use. Officials said their investigation showed that the fentanyl was his.Greenhalgh was arrested on charges of possessing a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child."Unfortunately, it's not shocking," said Capt. Brian Trefry. "It's not a common occurrence, but it does happen from time to time with children getting into narcotics that are either irresponsibly stored or inadvertently discarded by parents, relative or another adult."The American Medical Response (AMR) reported that in May, Nashua saw no suspected opioid-related deaths, marking a steady decline in recent months..."I still think we're in a good trend. But just by the nature of this disease, if you will, it can go either way at any point in time," said Chris Stawasz, regional director of American Medical Response. Stawasz said this should still be a warning that these drugs should not be anywhere near adults, let alone children. "It is a very lethal drug, it can kill you the first time you use it."Police said the girl is in stable condition. Greenhalgh is scheduled to be arraigned next month.
