MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Police Department is looking into, what residents claim, were scary encounters with strangers at their front doors.

Max Alon said he got a knock on his door on Wednesday night and was met by a couple he had never seen before. Alon claimed the man stated his girlfriend had lost her phone at the beach and that her phone pigged to be at Alon’s house.

“It doesn’t seem like something is normal. So, I wanted to find out if somebody else experienced the same thing,” Alon said. “That’s when I posted. It looked like they were waiting outside to see who was awake because five minutes or ten minutes after I got home, they knocked on my door.”

Alon said he hadn’t been to the beach in over a week and immediately turned around and went back into his house.

The encounter he said, left him with several questions and feeling uncomfortable. However, his Ring Doorbell caught the entire situation, which he posted on social media.

Alon came to find out several other Grand Strand residents have experienced a similar situation.

“Thank god nothing happened. But you know especially because I was by myself so it was kind of an uncomfortable situation,” Alon explained. “I have a two-year-old baby, the boy was not home. But, I was lucky this time, next time I will not open the door.”

Myrtle Beach police stated they have a handful of other complaints from other residents detailing a similar situation.

However, it’s something police say they can’t label as to what it is just yet, but they confirm, it is strange behavior and something residents should keep an eye out for.
