MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A police report obtained by WMBF News is shedding new light on a barricade situation at a Grand Strand campground late Sunday.

That document states an officer from the Horry County Police Department responded to Ocean Lakes Family Campground just before 7 p.m. The officer noted police were called there originally for reports of an “intoxicated female.”

Security at the campground reportedly told police that the woman possibly shot two to three rounds and pointed a gun at people within the campground. Four people told police she came out of a home and pointed a gun at them “because she thought they took her dog.”

A fifth person told police that they also saw the woman point a gun at them when she went back inside.

“When we got there, we identified an individual who did have a weapon in hand, and did seem to pose a threat to those around them,” said Mikayla Moskov, Horry County Police spokesperson.

The HCPD first posted information about the incident on its Facebook page at around 7:30 p.m. An hour later, the post updated with the HCPD saying the incident now involved a barricaded person. The HCPD said multiple units, including members of its SWAT, drone, negotiations, bomb squad, and dog teams were also at the scene.

WMBF News Reporter Eric Richards was also at the scene and saw multiple Horry County police vehicles, including an armored one, arrive at the campground at around 8 p.m.

WMBF News Reporter Eric Richards took footage of Horry County police arriving at what was described as a weapons incident and barricaded person at Ocean Lakes.

At around 9:45 p.m., an Horry County spokesperson confirmed the woman was taken into custody. It’s unclear how the arrest happened, but the spokesperson said no gunshots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The police report also did not specify how the arrest was made, but noted that the woman “eventually left her home and was placed in cuffs.”

Moskov confirmed to WMBF News that less than lethal objects were used to get the woman into custody.

“We did use what are called less lethal methods to engage with them. So when they seem to be a threat to themselves and others, as they were coming out of this, this unit, we did utilize gas and we did utilize what are essentially foam rounds,” said Moskov.

As of around noon Monday, the woman has not been identified. The police report does note that warrants for pointing and presenting will be presented to a judge.

Moskov said the woman was still in the hospital receiving treatment and had not been served with warrants yet.

In a statement, Ocean Lakes Family Campground thanked its staff and first responders “for working to keep everyone safe and address the situation.”

Crews from Horry County Fire Rescue were also seen in the area.
