Midseason Pro Bowl? Bengals' Burrow breaks down his ideal NFL schedule
Two bye weeks and a Pro Bowl during the middle of the regular season?
That's not the current reality in the NFL, but if Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had his "perfect schedule," it would be.
Burrow, speaking on the popular Barstool Sports podcast "Pardon My Take" on Monday, described his ideal NFL schedule, saying two bye weeks and a Week 13 Pro Bowl could help ease the physical burden that an 18-game NFL regular season can have on players' bodies.
"Like the NBA does, because I think that would get more ratings for the Pro Bowl and then it would also give everybody that bye week going into like the last six games," Burrow said.
Burrow touched on a variety of topics during his podcast appearance Monday, saying it's possible that people have forgotten about him in the landscape of top NFL quarterbacks following his season-ending wrist injury last November.
"That's what happens when you get hurt, though; you don't play football, people forget about you," Burrow said.
Burrow discussed how difficult it was for him at the end of last season as he was forced to sit on the sidelines while the Bengals made a late charge for the playoffs before ultimately coming up just short.
"Very difficult, but I would say this injury was different than my previous ones because it was my wrist. I couldn't throw, and I couldn't do my job, but I could still grind in the weight room and get all my workouts in," Burrow said.
In another hot topic of conversation, Burrow touched on the debate of whether or not he feels that the Ohio State Buckeyes can claim him as one of their former quarterbacks amid his NFL success.
Burrow attempted 29 passes over 11 games with the Buckeyes from 2016-17, playing in a backup role before transferring to LSU. With the Tigers, Burrow saw his NFL draft stock rise as he won a Heisman Trophy and national championship in 2019.
"I usually tell people that I went to school at Ohio State and I played football at LSU," Burrow said on PMT Monday.
Burrow and the Bengals are set to begin training camp later this month in Cincinnati. Fans will have the opportunity to see up to 15 training camp practices in person before the start of the regular season.
