Freedom Center hosting Black History month panel on Black Wellness and Black Resistance
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is hosting a Black History Month panel that explores Black health and wellness and Black resistance.The panel features a lineup of medical, community and educational experts to discuss the realities of wellness within the Black community and the continued legacy of Black resistance from the era of the Underground Railroad to today.The Freedom Center's theme of Black Resistance explores how African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression in all forms, especially the racial terrorism of lynching, racial pogroms and police killings.Thursday night's panelists include: •Dr. Calisha Brooks, Psychologist and Mental Health Activist •Dr. Rodney Coates, Professor of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, Global and International Studies at Miami University •Dr. LaGarrett King, Associate Professor of Social Studies Education in the Department of Learning and Instruction in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Buffalo •Kymisha Montgomery, Community Gardens Coordinator for the Civic Garden Center •Dr. Marc Watkins, Chief Medical Officer for the Kroger Co. The event begins at 6 p.m.
