Editorial: COVID-19 vaccine and children
This past week, America took what many believe is a giant step forward in the fight against COVID-19 as the CDC approved a new, lower-dose vaccine for children ages 5 to 11. The Department of Health says there are now nearly 1 million more children in Ohio alone, who are eligible for the vaccine. This is not a vaccine mandate, but it is a topic that we know is on the minds of all parents today. And while the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics support vaccinating children to protect them from the most serious effects of COVID-19, we believe parents need to be in the driver's seat as they weigh this very important decision. We also believe it is critically important to approach this decision from an objective and educated point of view as there is so much misinformation circulating on this topic. That is where we come in. WLWT News 5 has interviewed countless pediatricians, scientists, researchers and even parents as we work diligently to provide you with the information you need. Simply click on Get the Facts on the Vax. Here we make all that information available as you make a decision that is right for you and your family. Make no mistake, our goal at WLWT is not to promote the vaccine for children ages 5-11, but to give parents every bit of information we can, to help you make the right choice for your child and your family.
