The Boyle County Rebels defeated the Covington Catholic Colonels 41-0 in the Class 4A state championship game at Kroger Field in Lexington on Friday night.With the win, the Rebels completed a 15-0 season, while Eddie Eviston's Colonels suffered their only loss in 2023.Boyle County's Montavin Quisenberry had a big night for the Rebels, scoring the game's first touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter on a 13-yard-run.After forcing a CovCath punt early in the second quarter, Boyle County worked the ball down to the Colonels' 1-yard line, where Avery Bodner scored a touchdown to extend the lead to 13-0.Later in the second quarter, it was Quisenberry making another impact play, returning a CovCath punt 39 yards for a touchdown to give the Rebels a 20-0 lead that they took into halftime.The Rebels posted a commanding 236 total yards in the first half to CovCath's 29 and secured 10 first downs to CovCath's four.See highlights from Friday's game in the video player at the top of the story.The second half brought more of the same for the Colonels, with Boyle County coming up with a key stop to begin the half and again scoring on the ground when Bodner's 9-yard rush pushed the lead to 27-0.With the seconds ticking away in the third quarter, a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Sage Dawson extended the Boyle County lead to an insurmountable 34-0.The Rebels would add one more touchdown, courtesy of a 32-yard pass from Dawson to Geo Brown to make it 41-0, which held through the rest of the game.For the Rebels, Friday's victory was their 12th state championship in school history and their fourth consecutive Class 4A state title.
