Diversity and depth is what we are all about.In the middle of a presidential election, the eyes of the nation are focused on the Lowcountry.One of the most conservative states can make or break the GOP challenger this week.And if you remember correctly, it’s the same thing that happened for the Democrats in 2020.Then you look around during the same weekend. We have Black History Month celebrations tied to the incredible Gullah Geechee community.And Savannah is in the process of celebrating 30 years since the book 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.'That was a glimpse into decadent and diverse social scene like nowhere else in the country.And the 'Midnight' miracle is that the story helped open Savannah up to the entire world.Restaurant week in Tybee Island just featured local delicacies like the Lowcountry boil, and Carolina Gold rice that you can only taste here. But you can’t make either one without a hard dose of our ugly enslaved history.Walk down River Street any day and look at how the foundation of the city walls are woven into the future of this town.This year Savannah will mark the 200th year of its incredible Irish American tradition with the St. Patrick’s day parade.The military design of the squares critical to the style of the celebration.The port of Savannah and Brunswick have helped bring billions of dollars and new industries reaching from Bryan County to Korea.The Marines, Air Force and Army bases here help creating a strong community and culture of voices and families from all over the country.SCAD is watching the work of its students and faculty once again as we count down to the Academy Awards. And as a matter of fact, now, Savannah has become a mecca for filmmakers looking for the perfect place to make movies.And don’t forget. This weekend the Savannah Bananas are playing their first games of the season, and it’s a Banana-Ball you can only find here!Man, just take a step back and watch us cook.The sun is really shining down on our corner of the world.There is no way you can look at Savannah and the Lowcountry and not appreciate how our history and the diversity of our people make us special.Next time anyone tells you about our differences remind them of how they make us strong.I'm Ben Hart.
