District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones announced 19 indictments Wednesday afternoon against Leilani Simon including malice murder for the intentional killing of Quinton, felony murder, one count of concealing his death and several counts of making false statements during the investigation.

"These are the cases that keep us up at night. These are the cases that deserve justice," DA Cook Jones said.

Cook Jones said that the case must be tried fairly and not in the court of public opinion.

She began by thanking Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley, who joined her for the press conference but did not speak, as well as the other law enforcement agencies that helped in the search.

According to count 3 felony murder, "...the accused did maliciously cause her son Quinton Simon, a human being and a child under the age of eighteen years, cruel and excessive physical pain, in a manner unknown to the grand jury at this time, and the accused did, in the commission of this offense, cause Quinton's death..."

In count four of concealing the death of another, Leilani Simon is accused of disposing of her son's body by dumping him in a dumpster at the Azalea Mobile Home Plaza during the early morning hours of October 5, the day he was reported missing.

She was also indicted for false report of a crime for "implying that Quinton Simon had been abducted by an unknown intruder" and making several false statements.

Those dealt with her allegedly meeting her drug dealer during the late night hours of October 4 to pay an existing drug debt.

She later allegedly falsely stated that the purpose of the trip was to meet her friend "Misty" to obtain Orajel, a topical pain reliever, at a Chevron gas station and later the Azalea Mobile Home Plaza.

She also allegedly told investigators that the only thing she threw in the dumpster was normal household garbage.

The indictments do not explain what role "Misty" may have played in the investigation and the purpose of the trip the night before Quinton was reported missing.

Simon was also indicted for allegedly falsely stating that the only controlled substance of which she was a regular user was marijuana and for falsely claiming that the only controlled substance she had used in the past 24 hours was marijuana.

Here is the breakdown of the 19 charges:

Malice murder - 1 count

Felony murder - 2 counts

Concealing the death of another - 1 count

False report of a crime - 1 count

Making a false statement - 14

The false statements were allegedly made on October 5, October 8, October 12, October 31, and November 21.
