Mykel and Markel Rainey made headlines in May after becoming valedictorian and salutatorian of their high school.

A SET OF GEORGIA TWINS WHO RECENTLY GRADUATED AS VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL ARE NOW ATTENDING SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY. AS WE CELEBRATE SSU'S HOMECOMING WEEK, WJCL 22 NEWS' KYRONNEVEAUX SHARES HOW MYKEL (MIC-ELL) AND MARKEL (MARK-ELL) RAINEY ARE SETTLING IN WITH THE TIGER NATION. AMONGST THE MANY TIGERS AT SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY ARE TWO NEW CUBS READY TO TAKE ON THE WORLD. SOT- MARKEL RAINEY "WE'VE BEEN IN OUR HOME CITY FOR A WHILE, SO, YOU KNOW, WE'VE NEVER BEEN TO SAVANNAH BEFORE. THIS IS REALLY OUR FIRST TIME BEING IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA. SO, BEING IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, WHILE GOING TO COLLEGE AND STUFF LIKE THAT. IT'S A PRETTY NICE SCENERY." MYKEL AND MARKEL RAINEY MADE HEADLINES IN MAY AFTER BECOMING VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL... SOUTH OF COLUMBUS. SOT- BOTH "WE FEEL LIKE CELEBRITIES.. SUPERSTARS.. ESPECIALLY THE FIRST TIME WE STEPPED ON CAMPUS. WE ALREADY GET ATTENTION BEING TWINS, BUT THAT ADDED ON." MYKEL IS STUDYING ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, AND MARKEL IS STUDYING BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. AND THEY'RE ENJOYING THEIR FIRST COLLEGE HOMECOMING. SOT- MARKEL RAINEY "WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE TAILGATE AND SEE WHAT IT'S TALKING ABOUT.. EVERYONE CRAVES THE TAILGATE EXPERIENCE, YOU KNOW, SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT SATURDAY." OUTSIDE OF THE FUN, THE TWINS ARE STILL GETTING USED TO THE CHANGE OF BEING AWAY FROM HOME. Mykel and Markel Rainey made headlines in May after becoming valedictorian and salutatorian of their high school.

Amongst the many tigers at Savannah State University are two new cubs ready to take on the world. "We've been in our home city for a while, so, you know, we've never been to Savannah before. This is really our first time being in Savannah, Georgia," said Markel Rainey. "Being in Savannah, Georgia, while going to college and stuff like that. It's a pretty nice scenery." Mykel and Markel Rainey made headlines in May after becoming valedictorian and salutatorian of their high school, which is south of Columbus. And they’re enjoying their first college homecoming. "We are excited about the tailgate and see what it's talking about. Everyone craves the tailgate experience, you know, so looking forward to it Saturday," said Markel.Outside of the fun, the twins are still getting used to the change of being away from home. "We have quite the range of freedom. Basically, you aren't the responsibility of your parents. We have to figure it out on our own," said Mykel.Overall, they have one goal. "Do our best! Make your parents proud, and we definitely look forward to doing that," said Markel.

"We feel like celebrities, superstars, Especially the first time we stepped on campus. We already get attention being twins, but that added on," said Mykel.

Mykel is studying electrical engineering, and Markel is studying business management.

And they’re enjoying their first college homecoming.
