A historic beer sign stolen from a Wisconsin porch this week is back.
Wrapped in tarps, thieves returned the 250-pound Schlitz sign to Todd and Sonja Brown of Brewtown Collectibles in Milwaukee on Thursday.
Sister station WISN first reported on the theft Wednesday. The thieves were caught on camera stealing the 1964 artifact in broad daylight.
"It's a piece of history that can't be replaced. Please don't scrap it. Just return it," Sonja said Wednesday when asked about her message to the thieves.
On the Fourth of July, Todd said an anonymous caller reached out after seeing WISN's report, apologizing and promising to return the sign.
And they did.
The Browns found it back outside their building hours later.
"I'm getting the same feeling I did yesterday," Todd said. "I can't believe it's here! I know it's only a sign, but it's part of our identity."
The sign is back in its rightful place on Brown's front porch. It now has a lock securing it in place.
