WHO Commissioner on Social Connection

Dr Cleopa Mailu is currently the Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations-Geneva, WTO and Other International Organizations in Switzerland since July 2018. Prior to this appointment, Dr Cleopa Mailu served as the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Health from 2015-2018, and before then as Chief Executive Officer at the Nairobi Hospital, the leading private hospital in Kenya for a period of 12 years.

Dr Mailu has held key and strategic professional, managerial and leadership positions within the Government of Kenya, private sector and within the United Nations system. Dr Mailu also served in advisory capacity on the Boards of several national and international organisations in sectors such as health, banking, education, ICT and labour and has extensive experience in strategy and policy formulation; organizational re-engineering and development; medical audit and corporate governance.

In recognition of his contribution to nation building, professional and economic development, Dr. Mailu has received several State commendations and honours, including second highest honour of the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H).

Dr. Mailu is a medical doctor with specialisation in Genetics.
