Christina Watkins

Christina Watkins is an award-winning journalist who is thrilled to be back home and closer to family! She was born and raised in Oviedo and returned to Central Florida in March 2022 as the Weekend Anchor for WESH 2 News Sunrise.

She previously worked for WDSU News, WESH’s sister station in New Orleans. She spent four years serving the community as the Weekday Anchor for WDSU News at Noon and 4 p.m. She covered everything from breaking news, severe weather, festivals and of course, Mardi Gras! After falling in love with all things New Orleans, including the Saints and Pelicans, Christina now considers New Orleans her second home and is looking forward to bringing the spice and culture to Central Florida!

Prior to New Orleans, Christina was an Anchor/Reporter for Spectrum News in Charlotte, NC for three years where she traveled to be on the ground for major stories such as Super Bowl 50 in California and the Pulse Nightclub Shooting here in Orlando. She began her professional career in Missouri, anchoring and reporting for KQ2 News in St. Joseph.

Christina graduated from Florida International University in Miami, FL, receiving her degree in Journalism and Mass Communications in 2012. She’s an avid sports fan (Go Gators!)

Joining the WESH 2 family means a lot to Christina. Her late sister, who was a ‘Kid Anchor’ on WESH in the late 90s, inspired her so much! When she was 7 years old, her sister got behind the camera and recorded Christina pretending to report for WESH. It’s always been a dream and Christina is humbled that dream is now reality.

When she’s not working, Christina enjoys giving back, mentoring, hosting community events, and spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Nippy and Tilly. She’s passionate about Mental Health Awareness. Christina serves as a Board Member for the National Alliance on Mental Illness Greater Orlando (NAMIGO). She is always looking for ways to erase the stigma and remind people it’s OK not to be OK.

Christina is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
