Michelle Meredith

Reporter

Viewers across central Florida tell Michelle Meredith they “grew up watching her.”

Having joined WESH 2 News in March 1988, she celebrates almost 25 years of reporting the big stories in our ever-changing community.

Michelle is well-known for her consumer reporting and for her special series Eat Drink and be Wary. The latter gave viewers an eye-opening look inside restaurants closed by state health inspectors. Her proudest professional achievement came when she helped a local single mother get out of a rat-infested home owned by a local politician. She says that her favorite part of the job as a reporter is "helping people through knowledge, because knowledge is power."

Michelle’s most high-profile story exposed a pill that promised to raise gas mileage just by dropping the pill into a gas tank. Michelle had a laboratory analyze the pill which turned out to be made of an ingredient found in mothballs. She also tested the claim and found it made no difference in gas mileage. Her report sparked an investigation that ultimately shut down the manufacturer and won an award from the Society of Professional Journalists. The so-called “Michelle Cam” takes center stage in much of her investigative reporting. It’s a small camera Michelle hangs onto wherever she goes, and it’s captured everything from former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich at Disney World during his indictment to Casey Anthony family members to an unbelievable fracas at a heated Black Friday sale.

Michelle is a Southern woman at heart. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, she worked as a reporter at WALA-TV in Mobile, Alabama, and KLFY-TV in Lafayette, Louisiana., prior to joining WESH 2 News.

She earned her degree in broadcast journalism from Louisiana State University. When she isn't working, Michelle enjoys shopping for bargains and spending time with her daughter.
