'Red Hot and Boom' lights up Altamonte Springs with explosive performances and fireworks display
"Red Hot and Boom" returned Wednesday night to Crane's Roost Park in Altamonte Springs.
With a minimum expected attendance of 150,000 people, the city prepared for the massive event with safety warnings, road closures and more.
The fireworks went off over a packed crowd Wednesday night. The fireworks came after an evening of live performances was put on pause for a time due to weather passing through. But the bands got back on stage, and people said sticking around for the rest of the night was well worth it.
“I just like the community. All the people, no issues, no trouble," said Ladonna Jones. "And I love the fireworks. Like the whole event in general, I love it,”
'We're here to see Relic'
Earlier in the day, a group traveling from The Villages made sure they found shade for their very first Red Hot and Boom experience.
“I'm very excited we're here to see Relic, and we're here to see all the other bands, but Relic is what got us here," said Jane Lord.
Security
With that size crowd, security will matter. There will be checkpoints.
"We're not taking any coolers over two feet, any sharp objects, any alcohol, drugs, liquor, any of that kind of stuff, will not be allowed in the park," said Officer Deana Dipaola,
DiPaola stopped by the WESH 2 studio earlier this week to tell the community about what they can expect:
Entertainment, fireworks
Officials have been working all Wednesday morning to prepare for the event, which will have plenty of entertainment, vendors and fireworks, of course.
About 15,000 fireworks are expected to light up the sky when the sun goes down — approximately 10 every second.
