Former U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, a longtime Oklahoma politician, has died at the age of 89, sources confirmed to sister station KOCO.Sources told KOCO that Inhofe died at 4:48 a.m. on Tuesday while surrounded by his wife and children after suffering a sudden illness over the holiday. The Republican lawmaker was a fixture in Oklahoma politics for more than 50 years. He ran for public office 51 times, winning 48 of those races. Inhofe held one of Oklahoma's two U.S. Senate seats since 1994, serving five terms in office before retiring in 2022. "To the people of Oklahoma, I really thank what you've done for me all these years. Thank you very much. I love you guys," Inhofe said during a farewell speech in November of 2022.Inhofe was the longest-serving U.S. senator in Oklahoma history.
