The program, which has been running since 2007, aims to help people strengthen their homes against hurricanes.
The program was relaunched with $200 million in funding ready to be distributed. This year, the program prioritizes seniors and low-income homeowners out of six eligible groups.
Diana Giron has worked in the insurance business for 30 years. She said the actual impact on insurance rates could be large – or small – but it’s something.
"The biggest savings comes from the wind storm mitigation report and the roof. So that’s where the biggest credits are going to come from but anything like the impact windows, storm shutters," she said.
