American honeymooners stuck in Jamaica as Hurricane Beryl approaches
Hurricane Beryl, the first hurricane of the 2024 season, is closing in on Jamaica as a monstrous Category 4 storm.
Beryl, originally a Category 5 hurricane, has been one of the earliest storms in history with this type of intensity. Before Beryl, the earliest Category 5 hurricane to form was Hurricane Emily, but that wasn't even until July 16 in 2005.
American honeymooners are stuck on the island as the storm approaches.
The couple got back from a final day of snorkeling and kayaking when they learned the storm was moving toward the island.
"It was like a scene out of a doomsday movie," the woman said, describing the couple's attempt to get to an airport.
They were told, "There is no way off this island."
