GOING TO CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU ON THAT BREAKING NEWS. NOW TO A DEVELOPING STORY. EIGHT PEOPLE HAD TO BE SAVED FROM A SINKING BOAT YESTERDAY AFTER THEIR BOAT SLAMMED INTO A BRIDGE DOWN IN THE KEYS. WE ONLY GOT ABOUT FIVE TEN MINUTES BEFORE THIS THING GOES DOWN. WE GOT ONE MORE ON THE BACKSIDE. ALL RIGHT. NOW, SIX ADULTS AND TWO KIDS WERE HURT WHEN THAT BOAT CRASHED INTO THE BRIDGE NEAR BIG PINE KEY AND BODY CAMERA VIDEO HERE SHOWS US WHAT THAT DRAMATIC RESCUE LOOK LIKE AS MONROE. MONROE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARRIVED. OFFICIALS SAY THE 35 FOOT CENTER CONSOLE BOAT WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BEFORE IT HIT THE BRIDGE. AND HERE’S WHAT’S LEFT OF THE BOAT. THE FORMER ORLANDO CITY COMMISSIONER ACCUSED OF STEALING THE LIFE SAVINGS OF AN ELDERLY WOMAN, IS IN COURT. REGINA HILL IS FACING SEVEN FELONY CHARGES. WESH 2’S BOB HAZEN REPORTS HER TRIAL IS SCHEDULED TO START LATER THIS MONTH. IT’S BEEN LESS THAN FOUR MONTHS SINCE HILL WAS ARRESTED, SO A TRIAL LATER THIS MONTH WOULD BE A REALLY QUICK TURNAROUND. AND IT’S POSSIBLE THAT TRIAL DATE COULD BE PUSHED BACK. HILL HAS DENIED ANY WRONGDOING IN THIS CASE, BUT SHE IS FACING SOME VERY SERIOUS CHARGES. SHE WAS STILL IN ORLANDO CITY COMMISSIONER WHEN FDLE ARRESTED HER, CLAIMING SHE CONVINCED A 96 YEAR-OLD WOMAN TO GIVE HER THE POWER OF ATTORNEY AND THEN USING THAT POWER TO DRAIN HER LIFE SAVINGS. HILL ALLEGEDLY STOLE MORE THAN $100,000 FROM THE WOMAN’S ACCOUNTS AND USED IT FOR LUXURIES LIKE FACELIFTS, HOTEL STAYS AND RENTAL CARS. THE GOVERNOR SUSPENDED HILL FROM OFFICE AND THE VICTIM’S NEW GUARDIAN GOT A RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST HER. TODAY, HILL’S CASE IS SET TO BE BACK IN FRONT OF A JUDGE FOR A PRETRIAL CONFERENCE. WE DON’T KNOW YET IF THE FORMER COMMISSIONER IS GOING TO BE HERE IN PERSON OR NOT. IT COULD TALK ABOUT THE TIMELINE, THOUGH, FOR THIS TRIAL, WHICH AT THIS POINT IS SET TO START ON JULY 22ND. ABOVE: A look at today's headlinesThree people were arrested Sunday after they were caught trying to sell puppies out of a cart to beachgoers, the Naples Police Department said.Police were called to the beach after Ernest Augustin of Immokalee, Mariel Palominoca Campos and Yuniesky Campos Hartman, both of Cape Coral, were spotted pulling a cart with puppies hidden under a blanket, NPD wrote in a social media post.The six puppies were deprived of fresh air, according to the police department, and were overheating from the sweltering temperatures. A heat advisory was in effect at the time of the incident and the heat index was estimated at 110 degrees.“Two of the dogs were observed with shallow breathing and were nearly unresponsive, appearing to be in distress due to heat related symptoms,” police said.After about 20 minutes in an air conditioned car with water available, the puppies began to recover. Collier County Domesticated Animal Services checked them over to make sure they were healthy.“During the investigation, it was apparent the suspects unnecessarily deprived the dogs of necessary sustenance or shelter in a cruel manner,” police said. “All suspects had the ability to stop, provide the dogs with water or shaded shelter, but none chose to do so.”All three suspects were charged with cruelty to animals.
