Jan. 6 hearing focuses on President Trump's alleged inaction during U.S. Capitol attack
>> THE PANEL LAID OUT HOW FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP DID NOTHING TO STOP THE VIOLENCE ON JANUARY 6 AND ARGUED HOW HE GLEEFULLY WATCHED THE VIOLENCE UNFOLD ON TV. ACCORDING TO EVIDENCE, TRUMP KNEW THE CAPITOL WAS UNDER ATTACK WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF LEAVING THE STAGE, WHERE HE ENCOURAGED SUPPORTERS TO FIGHT LIKE HELL. HE WAS IN THE DINING ROOM NEAR THE OVAL OFFICE WATCHING IT ALL ON FOX NEWS. >> WERE YOU JOINED IN THE EFFORT FOR TRUMP TO MAKE A STRONG STATEMENT BY A IVANKA TRUMP AND MARK MEADOWS? >> YES. >> THEY WANTED A STRONG STATEMENT TO CONDEMN THE RIOTERS. REPORTER: MIKE PENCE WAS PULLED FROM THE SENATE FLOOR. INSTEAD OF TRYING TO STOP THE PROTEST, TRUMP TWEETED THAT PENCE DID NOT HAVE THE COURAGE TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. THAT WAS DESCRIBED AS POURING GAS ON THE FIRE. >> THE TWEET LOOKED LIKE THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE NEEDED AT THAT MOMENT, WHICH WAS DE-ESCALATION. THAT IS WHY I SAID EARLIER THAN IT LOOKS LIKE FUEL BEING POURED ON THE FIRE. >> IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE SITUATION WAS VIOLENT AND ESCALATING QUICKLY. THE TWEET FROM THE PRESIDENT WAS THE LAST THING NEEDED IN THAT MOMENT AND I REMEMBER THINKING THAT IT IS GOING TO BE BAD FOR HIM TO TWEET THIS BECAUSE IT WAS ESSENTIALLY HIM GIVING THE GREEN LIGHT TO THESE PEOPLE.
