Orioles hire first woman to hold a 'president' role for MLB team
The Baltimore Orioles have made a monumental move for their front office.
The Orioles announced their first female hire for their president of business operations on Monday: Catie Griggs.

What is a president of business operations?
A president in this position is in charge of implementing new software, managing databases and executing financial management procedures.
Griggs was highly touted in these categories, evidenced by her previous work in the same position for the Seattle Mariners.
Griggs was named president of business operations for the Seattle Mariners in July 2021, where she managed all aspects of the team's business operations, including investments to improve technology, operations, and fan experience at T-Mobile Park, the Orioles said in a news release.
What does the future hold for the team and its fans?
T-Mobile Park was the first venue to host a Major League Baseball All-Star Game and NHL Winter Classic in the same calendar year. These events generated more than $80 million in revenue for the city of Seattle alone.
“I am genuinely thrilled to be joining the Orioles organization. Supporting this storied franchise, the city of Baltimore, and our passionate fans is an incredible honor,” Griggs said. “I look forward to contributing to the team’s success both on and off the field.”
Griggs got her business start in Atlanta with the MLS Atlanta United. Hired in 2017, Griggs was chief business officer, overseeing all aspects of the Atlanta United front office.
She has also been honored with numerous awards throughout her career, including the Game Changer (2017) and 40 Under 40 (2022). The Associated Press reported that Griggs’ move came, in part, to be closer to family on the East Coast.
Griggs will begin her Orioles’ role on Aug. 19. She is currently the only woman to hold a “president” role in the MLB.
