The admission of the Empowering Children Foundation to the WeProtect Global Alliance is a significant step in the fight against sexual crimes against children in Poland. The organization, which has been involved in education, prevention and intervention activities for years, has gained recognition for its innovative approach to protecting the youngest.

“It is a great honor for our Foundation to join such a prestigious alliance as the WeProtect Global Alliance. To have access to international know-how and to be able to influence the shaping of global strategies to protect children from sexual exploitation is an extremely valuable experience for us. It is a recognition of the Foundation’s more than 30 years of work to protect children from sexual exploitation, including in the online environment,” said vice-president of the Empowering Children Foundation, Marta Skierkowska.

The scale of online child sexual abuse is growing at an alarming rate and easily crosses national borders. Only real international cooperation, including national governments, technology companies and community organizations can contribute to building a safer internet for children. Empowering Children Foundation joins more than 300 other organizations around the world that are already part of the Alliance. Membership in the Alliance will allow the Foundation to have an even greater impact in developing a global strategy to counter online child sexual abuse. The Foundation will be able to work with international experts and organizations to create effective methods and procedures to help protect children around the world, including in Poland.

“We are delighted to welcome Empowering Children Foundation to WeProtect Global Alliance. The work the Foundation does providing children and caregivers with support is a really important part of the ecosystem, as is their work influencing Polish law to protect the best interests of children. They are now joining a movement of over 300 other organizations across the world united on a common cause –  protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse,” said Iain Drennan, Executive Director WeProtect Global Alliance.

The WeProtect Global Alliance brings together more than 300 members, including governments, the private sector, civil society and international organizations, to develop policies and solutions to protect children from online sexual exploitation and violence.  The Alliance supports and generates political commitment and practical solutions to make the digital world safe and child-friendly. It is the largest and most diverse global coalition dedicated to ending sexual exploitation and abuse of children online.

The WeProtect Global Alliance recently published its latest Global Threat Assessment Report, which details the scope and scale of the risks of online child sexual exploitation and calls for new solutions to reduce the risk to children and prevent abuse before it happens.
