Prior to that, Gerry worked as a reporter/photographer in Kearney, Nebraska and Macon, Georgia, and worked as a Video Journalist at the then nascent Cable News Network (CNN) in Atlanta. Gerry started his career in local radio on Massachusetts-South Shore before making the move to television.

Gerry graduated Magna Cum Laude from Emerson College in Boston where he holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in political science.

Emerson awarded Gerry the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. In 2016, Emerson’s Journalism Department also named an award in Gerry’s honor.
