Matt Reed

Reporter

Matt Reed is a general assignment reporter at WCVB Channel 5, Boston’s News Leader.

Matt joined WCVB in October 2017 from WJAR-TV NBC 10 in Providence, RI where he served as a reporter at WJAR-TV since February 2015. Prior to that, he was a reporter and a producer for weekend newscasts for KCEN-TV in Waco, TX. While reporting for KCEN-TV, Matt covered the West Fertilizer plant explosion, the Fort Hood shooting, the trial of Nidal Hassan, and the Texas House Bill 2 passing. In addition to his time at KCEN-TV, Matt was an adjunct professor at Baylor University while in Texas, where he taught an introductory journalism course about reporting and writing.

Before going out west, Matt spent his final semester of graduate school at Boston University as a news writer at WHDH-TV Channel 7 in Boston. And during the 2012 Summer Olympics, Matt spent two months in London as one of three student correspondents for WBZ-TV in Boston as well. While in London, he covered Massachusetts native Kayla Harrison becoming the first American male or female to win an Olympic gold medal in judo in addition to presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s visit to London.

Throughout his life, Matt has covered a lot of territory, having lived in Illinois, California, Florida, Maryland, Florida, Texas, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School in Peabody, MA and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami, where he also studied Theater Arts and Business Law. Matt also received a Master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University.
