Ben Simmoneau

Anchor/Reporter

Award-winning, veteran journalist, Ben Simmoneau, is an Anchor/Reporter for WCVB’s NewsCenter 5 at 4PM, 5PM, and 5:30PM. Ben also leads the station’s nationally recognized consumer reporting franchise, “Ben Has Your Back.” By confronting businesses, state agencies and federal programs to get answers for Massachusetts residents who need a hand, Ben has helped hundreds of viewers recoup thousands of dollars that are rightfully theirs, while sharing lessons learned so that others can avoid similar pitfalls.

Joining WCVB Channel 5 marked a return to Hearst Television for Ben who began his career at WGAL, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in Harrisburg-Lancaster, PA. Ben joined NewsCenter 5 from WNYW, the Fox flagship station in New York City where he worked as a weekday morning anchor since June 2013. Prior to joining Fox, Ben spent five years working as an anchor and investigative reporter for KYW, the CBS-owned television station in Philadelphia.

Ben received the first-place award for “On-Air Personality – Television” at the 2017 Sound Bites Awards presented by the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association. He is also a six-time Emmy winner who has also been honored twice with an Edward R. Murrow award -- once at WGAL for investigative reporting and once for his role as part of the team at KYW which won for Station Excellence. Ben’s innovative coverage of the 2006 mid-term elections earned him a Walter Cronkite Award from the University of Southern California for excellence in political journalism.

Before graduating from Ithaca College with a journalism degree, Ben worked for Chris Matthews as a researcher on his bestselling book American: Beyond Our Grandest Notions.

In New York, Ben served on the Executive Council of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America Greater New York Chapter. He now works actively with the New England Chapter, hosting the annual Take Steps walk fundraiser and the organization’s largest annual event the Fete of Food and Wine. He has also worked in the past with the Children's Miracle Network and Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

An avid runner, Ben also enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with his wife and two children.
