Margaret Cronan

News Director

Margaret Cronan is News Director for WCVB Channel 5, Boston’s News and Community Leader. A communications executive with more than twenty years of leadership experience, Margaret returned to Hearst Television to head NewsCenter 5 in August 2021. She is just the eighth News Director in the station’s distinguished history. As News Director, Margaret manages all operations of the news department including oversight of the more than 45 hours of newscasts produced weekly, breaking news, weather and sports, special projects, 5 Investigates, NewsCenter 5 Primetime specials, and all of the station’s digital and social media news initiatives.

Margaret is a veteran news journalist who has led news operations at television stations in top markets across the country and is committed to fostering collaborative, inclusive, and energetic work environments. Over the course of her news career, Margaret was Vice President and News Director for CBS Television Station KYW-TV in Philadelphia, PA and also served as News Director of Hearst Television’s WBAL-TV in Baltimore, MD and WPBF-TV in West Palm Beach, FL. Prior to Hearst, Margaret was an Executive Producer at KYW-TV, a Senior Producer at WNBC-TV in New York, NY, and an Associate Producer at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles, CA. Before that, she was a Producer at WJZ-TV in Baltimore, MD as well as WBOC-TV in Salisbury, MD. She began her distinguished news career as a writer and assignment desk editor at WWBT-TV in Richmond, VA.

Before coming to Boston from Philadelphia to join WCVB Channel 5, Margaret was Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MCronan Communications where she was a leadership and content consultant providing strategic, multi-platform communications solutions for clients including news organizations and journalists. She also served as Chief Communications Officer at the National Constitution Center and was the Director and General Manager of Television for NAVTEQ/Traffic.com.

Margaret, who grew up in the Philadelphia area, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania earning a BA degree in English.
