A.J. Burnett

Meteorologist

A.J. Burnett is an award-winning meteorologist and the weather producer for WCVB Channel 5’s StormTeam 5. He joined the team in 2016 and is proud to work and serve communities he calls home.

A.J. has worked at several television stations in New England, including WFXT in Boston, WCSH6/WLBZ2 in Maine, New England Cable News, as well as WCVB sister station WMUR in New Hampshire. His career has taken him into the elements of many memorable storms, including the powerful January Nor’easter of 2018 (sometimes referred to as the “Bomb Cyclone”), the Blizzard of 2013, Super Storm Sandy, and the Tornado Outbreak in western Massachusetts in 2011. A.J. is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval, given for excellence in broadcast meteorology.

In 2022, A.J. received a regional Emmy® award presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter for storm coverage during a Nor’easter. He has also been nominated multiple times for his work with NewsCenter 5 and Chronicle teams covering climate change, including his contributions to the “Forecasting Our Future” franchise, an initiative across all Hearst Television stations to address issues Americans face in navigating changing weather patterns and their impact on local communities and economies.

Apart from his work at WCVB, A.J. carries on a proud family tradition of volunteerism, emceeing several local events and galas, including RESPOND, a domestic violence prevention agency.

A.J. is a native Cape Codder and attended Barnstable High School before going on to earn a degree in Meteorology from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He also holds teacher certification in both Mathematics and Earth Science and briefly taught high school science and math. A.J. lives on the North Shore and is the proud father to two beautiful, strong girls, Grace and Caroline.
