Katie Thompson

Katie Thompson is the Traffic Anchor and Transportation Specialist for NewsCenter 5’s top-rated EyeOpener weekday newscasts (4:30-7:00AM), covering the region’s critical transportation and commuter news including breaking stories on travel and infrastructure. Prior to this role, Katie was a general assignment reporter for NewsCenter 5 since February 2017.

Katie is a New England native who was born and raised in Kennebunk, Maine. She began her career in Boston more than a decade ago as a production assistant and is proud to work in a city she calls her second home.

Before joining WCVB, Katie reported for sister Hearst station, WMTW, in Portland, Maine. While in Portland, she covered everything from Maine politics to a series on the sustainability of a shrinking Moose population. She’s also been lucky enough to cover two Red Sox World Series and three Patriots Super Bowl victories, the ultimate job perk for a Boston sports fan. Prior to Portland, Katie spent two years in Abilene, Texas working for KRBC-TV as a reporter, producer and weekday anchor.

Katie is a graduate of Hofstra University in Long Island where she studied broadcast journalism. In her spare time, Katie loves to spend time with her family in Maine and her extended family in Massachusetts.
