WCVB and the Greater Boston Food Bank Partner Again for Annual DAY OF GIVING on Wednesday, September 20th
BOSTON, MA – Monday, September 18, 2023 – September marks Hunger Action Month, and WCVB Channel 5 is once again joining with The Greater Boston Food Bank to raise much needed funds in the fight against food insecurity by televising a special day-long DAY OF GIVING fundraiser on Wednesday, September 20th. WCVB’s DAY OF GIVING will feature live cut-ins by NewsCenter 5 anchors and reporters throughout the day during regularly scheduled programming, as they explore various topics related to food insecurity and the hunger crisis in Massachusetts.“As the hunger crisis here in Massachusetts continues to escalate with no end in sight, The Greater Boston Food Bank is a beacon of help and hope in this time of great need for so many of our neighbors,” said Kyle I. Grimes, WCVB President and General Manager. “We are extremely proud to partner with the GBFB on another Day of Giving and to use our platform to amplify their call for help for the most vulnerable in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.”“The hunger crisis in our region is alarming. Our neighbors are in financial distress, grappling with the high cost of living and reaching out to our food distribution partners in record numbers for help with groceries to meet their basic household needs,” said Catherine D’Amato, President and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “WCVB, for the fifth consecutive year, is doing their part during Hunger Action Month by generously dedicating this Day of Giving to help us raise much-needed funds so that we can purchase and distribute more food to keep up with the historic level of need that we are seeing here in Eastern Massachusetts.”According to GBFB research, one in three people are experiencing food insecurity here in our community, with nearly 70% living in Eastern Massachusetts. Due to the current high cost of living, many of our neighbors are having to make tough decisions between buying food or paying for housing, healthcare, or transportation.
