Red Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez gives back to his native Dominican Republic

For Boston Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez, an incredible baseball career has given way to a new passion for giving back to where his Hall of Fame career began.WCVB’s Maria Stephanos hosted the 7th Annual Pedro Martinez Foundation Gala to support their mission of meeting the physical, emotional, and educational needs of struggling youth and their families, so they can thrive in society. The Pedro Martinez Foundation was founded in 1998, inspired by Pedro Martinez’s experience growing up with little opportunity in the San Miguel de Manoguayabo region of the Dominican Republic. Since then, the foundation has opened a thriving community center in Manoguayabo which has served over 100,000 children to date. The foundation also serves 15 other communities in the Dominican Republic, and 3 in the United States (Boston, Lawrence, and the Bronx).
