Patrick Clancy, Duxbury, Mass., father of 3 slain children, completes Boston Marathon in their honor
HE IS THE FATHER OF THE THREE DUXBURY CHILDREN WHO WERE KILLED LAST YEAR. AND TODAY, JUST 15 MONTHS AFTER THAT HORRIFIC TRAGEDY, HE RAN THE RACE WITH THE MILES FOR MIRACLES TEAM IN HONOR OF CORA, DAWSON AND KALYN RAISING MORE THAN $72,000 FOR BOSTON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. OUR JOHN ATWATER JOINS US LIVE NOW, AND JOHN, IT IT’S HEARTFELT THAT HE RAN TODAY. I CAN’T IMAGINE WHAT WHAT A CONVERSATION WITH HIM WAS LIKE. WHAT DID HE SAY AFTER HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE. IT WAS YEAH. IT WAS SO EMOTIONAL. JUST TO SPEAK WITH HIM, SO EMOTIONAL. AND HE WAS SO EMOTIONAL AS HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE. HE HAD TEARS IN HIS EYES AS HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE. OBVIOUSLY, THIS COMING JUST OVER A YEAR AFTER ALL OF THIS HAPPENED, THIS TRAGEDY AND HIS FAMILY. NOW WE’LL SHOW YOU THE MOMENTS AFTER HE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE HERE ON BOYLSTON STREET AS HE WAS EMOTIONAL. IT IS HIS FIRST MARATHON AND HE SAYS IT WAS THERAPEUTIC FOR HIM NOW. HE RAISED ALL OF THAT MONEY FOR BOSTON CHILDREN’S, THE HOSPITAL THAT TREATED HIS YOUNGEST SON. BUT SADLY, NONE OF HIS THREE CHILDREN SURVIVED. HIS WIFE IS CHARGED IN THEIR DEATHS. THEY WERE ALL UNDER THE AGE OF FIVE, AND TODAY HE RAN TO HONOR THEM. UM, I LOVED MY KIDS THERE ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. UM, THEY HAD A LOT OF FRIENDS. EVERYBODY LOVED THEM. AND, UM, THEY HAD SHORT LIVES, BUT THEY HAD REALLY GOOD LIVES. AND IT IS SO CLEAR HOW MUCH PATRICK CLANCY LOVED HIS CHILDREN. BUT AGAIN, HE SAID HE WANTED TO RUN HIS FIRST MARATHON AS A SORT OF THERAPY. AND AS HE CAME, THOSE 26 MILES, HE SAID THAT ALONG THE SIDELINES, EVERYONE WAS CHEERING HIS NAME. ALTHOUGH HIS NAME WAS NOT ON HIS BIB. SO A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW WHO HE IS. A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE THERE TO SUPPORT HIM. HE ALSO HAD THE SUPPORT OF HIS THREE KIDS. HE HAD HIS DAUGHTER’S BEAU ON HIM AND A BRACELET AND AN ARMBAND FROM HIS TWO SONS.
