Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum agrees to 5-year, NBA record $314M deal, ESPN reports
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has agreed on a five-year, $314 million contract extension, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday.ESPN reported the deal was the biggest in NBA history. The 6-feet and 9-inch tall forward, who was drafted third overall by the Celtics in 2017, has developed into one of the NBA's top two-way talents, partnering with Jaylen Brown — whom Boston signed to what was a record extension a year ago. The contract extension for Tatum, combined with Brown's new contract, allows the Celtics to remain among the league's elite teams for years to come. Celtics guard Derrick White, who played a key role in the team's recent NBA Championship, also agreed to a contract extension on Monday. White agreed to a four-year, $125.9 million extension with a player option, according to Wojnarowski.Last month, Boston beat the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to win the series and put an exclamation point on their domination of the NBA’s 78th season. The news comes on the same day that the majority owner of the Celtics announced it was putting its share up for sale. Wyc Grousbeck led the group that bought the Celtics for $360 million in 2002. Under his ownership, the team won their 17th championship title in 2008 and brought home their 18th banner last month.
