LABEL. SO WE SAW WE SEE A LOT OF THIS MARATHON EVERY YEAR, MARATHON EVERY YEAR. BUT WE SAW A LOT OF THIS YESTERDAY. RUNNERS BECOMING DEHYDRATED OR WHATEVER THEY NEEDED TO BE CARRIED ACROSS THE FINISH LINE AND THEY WERE BY THE WAY, THEY WERE HELPED INTO THE MEDICAL TENT. AND AS WE UNDERSTAND AT THE END OF THE RACE, STATISTICS, THE NUMBERS WERE PRETTY NORMAL. SO THERE WASN’T ANYTHING ABNORMAL. YESTERDAY. BUT, YOU KNOW, DOCTOR TODD ELLERIN, WHO’S WITH US FROM SOUTH SHORE HEALTH THIS EVENING. TAKE A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS. ALL RIGHT. YOU WANT TO GO THROUGH THE NUMBERS? SURE. LET’S GO THROUGH THE NUMBERS. MORE THAN 29,000 PEOPLE ENTERED THE RACE, SO NEARLY 30,000. THE BAR SAYS PARAMEDICS TOOK 132 OF THEM TO LOCAL HOSPITALS. AND AS OF THIS MORNING, 38 ARE STILL ADMITTED IN THE HOSPITALS. BUT NO ONE IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. IF LET ME ASK YOU WHAT YOUR REACTION TO THOSE NUMBERS IS. ALL RIGHT. LISTEN 73 DEGREES, RIGHT. IT WAS HOT, RIGHT? YOU’VE GOT ALMOST 30,000 RUNNERS. YOU’RE RUNNING ON PAVEMENT, YOU’RE GOING TO SEE HEALTH RELATED COMPLICATIONS. BUT IT’S AMAZING THAT THESE RUNNERS ARE IN SUCH GREAT HEALTH. THEY HAVE SUCH DETERMINATION. IT’S AMAZING. WE DON’T SEE MORE. BUT WHAT I WANT TO POINT OUT IS THIS MEDICAL TENT AT THE FINISH LINE. IT MOST YEARS IT’S LIKE A FOOTBALL FIELD. THIS YEAR THERE WAS TWO, BUT IT’S LITERALLY PICTURE IN EMERGENCY ROOM. YOU HAVE PHYSICIANS, YOU HAVE NURSES, YOU HAVE EMS, YOU HAVE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS, PHYSICAL THERAPISTS. IT IS AMAZING. YOU HAVE PHARMACIES. IT IS SUCH AS ONE EXPERT FROM SOUTH SHORE WHO USED TO BE AN EMS SAFETY OFFICER FOR BOSTON, SAID IT’S LIKE A FINE TUNED BALLET. THE CHOREOGRAPHY IS AMAZING. IT’S BRILLIANT. OH IT’S TERRIFIC. AND PEOPLE WALK IN AND THEY NEED IT AND THEY GOT IT AND THEY WALK OUT AND IT’S GREAT. SO THERE ARE MANY OTHER RUNNERS WHO DID FINISH THE RACE, BUT THEY’RE WALKING VERY SLOWLY TODAY. NORTH. ALL RIGHT. IMAGINE AGAIN 73 DEGREES. YOU HAVE A LOT OF HEAT RELATED PROBLEMS. YOU HAVE A LOT OF CRAMPING OKAY. SO BECAUSE THINK ABOUT IT. WHEN YOU SEE A LOT OF THESE RUNNERS AT THE END, YOU CAN LITERALLY SEE THE SALT ON THEM. THEY’RE LOSING SO MUCH SALT. SO YOUR MUSCLES ARE CRAMPING RIGHT. MOST OF THEM. MOST ALL THEY NEED IS SOME BROTH SOME GATORADE. MANY OF THEM DON’T LIKE TO DRINK THE GATORADE BECAUSE THE SUGAR, THE SUGAR PART OF IT GETS THEM THEIR GI SYSTEM. SO THEY’RE DRINKING FREE WATER, WHICH CAN ACTUALLY LOWER THE SODIUM AND CAN CAUSE MORE CRAMPING. AND LET ME ADD PARENTHETICALLY, OUR EMILY MAHER WHO RAN THE RACE YESTERDAY, THE FIRST TIME SHE DID THE BOSTON MARATHON. SHE’S WORKING TONIGHT. HER BODY’S RECOVERED PERFECTLY. SHE’S A SUPERSTAR. SO HOW LONG COULD IT TAKE FOR FOR AVERAGE PERSON TO RECOVER RIGHT. SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT A LOT OF PEOPLE TODAY, THEY’RE LIMPING. BUT YOU KNOW, MOST PEOPLE ARE IMPROVED AFTER A FEW DAYS, AFTER A WEEK AND I THINK THE IMPORTANT THING IS TO KNOW THE RED FLAGS WHEN YOU HAVE TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF CRAMPING, IF YOU HAVE, YOU KNOW, FATIGUE, MUSCLE SORENESS, YOU DON’T NEED TO. BUT IF YOU’RE CONFUSED, YOU KNOW, IF YOU HAVE HIGH FEVERS, IF YOU HAVE CHEST PAIN. THERE WAS A HEART ATTACK YESTERDAY THAT THEY TOOK CARE OF. AND OF COURSE, THAT PATIENT WENT TO THE HOSPITAL. BUT I THINK THOSE ARE THE WARNING SIGNS. YOU KNOW, MOST PEOPLE DO VERY WELL. OBVIOUSLY IF YOU CAN’T WALK, IF YOU’RE INJURED TO THAT POINT, YOU NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. I’VE N
