Black Unicorn Marathoners hold 10th annual celebrate and connect event
AREA. THE BLACK UNICORN MARATHONERS HOLDING THEIR 10TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION AND CONNECT EVENT AT THE REGGIE LEWIS CENTER THIS WEEKEND. THE EVENT IS HELD IN HONOR OF MARILYN BEVINS, THE FIRST U.S. BORN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN TO RUN A MARATHON IN UNDER THREE HOURS. WCVB PHOTOJOURNALIST LEIGH HARRINGTON GIVES US A CLOSER LOOK. I WANT YOU TO KNOW. THAT ALL OF YOU ARE SUPERHEROES. THAT IS WHY I SAY BOSTON CANNOT BE ITS BEST SELF WITH OUT YOU BEING HERE. MONDAY IS A CELEBRATION OF LIFE, OF YOUR HARD WORK AND YOUR PERSEVERANCE TO BE HERE. YOU EARNED TO BE HERE. HI EVERYONE! WASHINGTON DC BY WAY OF SIERRA LEONE, THIS IS MY 12TH CONSECUTIVE BOSTON MARATHON I640, YOU HAVE GIVEN PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF CAUSE TO KEEP ON HOPING, REMINDING US TO NOT GIVE UP ON OUR RACE. MY GRANDCHILDREN CAN LOOK BACK AND SEE THAT THEIR GRANDMA RAN THE BOSTON MARATHON. OH, I CAN JUST SHARE WITH EVERYBODY THAT IF I CAN DO IT, THEY CAN DO IT TOO. RUNNING IS CONNECTING WITH NATURE, CONNECTING WITH YOUR HIGHER POWER, CONNECTING TO THE SPIRIT OF WHITNEY HOUSTON. WHO WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU? I HOPE SO, SO WHITNEY IS ALWAYS WITH ME WHEN I’M RUNNING. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU’RE AN OLYMPIAN, AN ELITE, A SEASON, A VETERAN OR A BEGINNER, THE 26.2 IS 26.2. WHEN YOU’RE OUT THERE, YOU’RE FAMILY DOING IT FOR WHITNEY OR YOUR GRANDKIDS. WHITNE
