Learn about the science of weather straight from a StormTeam 5 Meteorologist!

WCVB StormTeam 5 is now accepting requests to give local students an in-person, interactive presentation on the science of forecasting right in your classroom!

Please read the following requirements, then fill out the request form for consideration. Thanks for watching WCVB Channel 5 and we hope to see you at school!

Which grades? The curriculum is targeted to grades 3 through 5. However, grades 2 to 6 can be considered for visits with a more limited availability from our meteorologists.

Minimum number of students: 20 to 25 is the minimum, given the commitment of time made by our meteorologists. There is no upper limit on the number of students.

Consent forms: Some students will be videotaped and photographed for use on Channel 5, WCVB.com and WCVB’s Facebook pages. Students who do not have signed consent forms from parents may need to leave during these brief periods.

Latex allergies? The Storm Team 5 meteorologist may blow up latex balloons as part of the presentation. Students may handle balloons, and should be made aware.

How far in advance to book: Please book as far ahead as you can. We receive many requests throughout the school year and do our best to get to as many schools as possible. There may be a waitlist during times of higher demand.

School appearances may be cancelled or postponed on short notice, if the meteorologist is required to be on-duty at WCVB for severe weather coverage. We will do our best to reschedule in this event.

Dates and times for visits must be agreeable to both WCVB and your school. All scheduled visits are subject to the availability of our staff.

Equipment required, to be provided by the school:

  • PC computer preferred with latest version of Microsoft Powerpoint (if PC/Powerpoint is not available, any computer with Apple Slides or Google Slides will usually work; please let us know ahead of time if that is the case).
  • Projector with HDMI connection & HDMI cable, powered on and ready for use prior to the meteorologist's arrival.
  • Speakers to play sound
  • Please note: Time required for setup or technical issues will take away from the presentation. We allot approximately one hour for the presentation and Q&A.

  • School name
  • Grade
