LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A Jefferson County Public Schools employee is facing several charges including sexual abuse and sodomy.

Micca Watts Gordon, 36, of Shelbyville, was indicted and taken into custody Tuesday.

She was a teacher at the all-male middle school W.E.B. Dubois Academy when she came under investigation for allegations of sexual crimes involving a minor under the age of 16.

According to court documents, between Aug. 25, 2019 and Nov. 19, 2019 Gordon masturbated either in the presence of a person under 16 years of age or while using the internet, telephone, or other electronic devices while the two communicated.

Documents also state that on or between Oct. 27, 2019 and Nov. 19, 2019, Gordon attempted to engage in sexual intercourse with the juvenile.

“Micca Watts-Gordon was reassigned from W.E.B. DuBois Academy in November of 2019 to non-instructional duties, where she had no contact with children,” Renee Murphy, JCPS Chief of Communications, said in a statement. “We referred the investigation to police at that time. Gordon remains reassigned, continues to have no contact with JCPS students, and is employed by JCPS while the investigation continues.”

The victim is listed in the indictment by the initials “S.W.”

According to the indictment, Gordon was “in a position of authority or a position of special trust; and having come into contact with S.W. as a result of that position, committed the offense of Sexual Abuse in the 1st Degree.”

Gordon was booked into Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. In addition to sexual abuse and sodomy, Gordon was charged with unlawful transaction with a minor, distributing obscene material to minors, use of a minor under 16 in a sex performance, and tampering with physical evidence.

Gordon’s attorney, Steve Romines said in a statement, “We are entering a plea of Not Guilty and look forward to presenting the actual facts of the case at trial as soon as possible.”

Gordon is also accused of tampering with evidence. She is scheduled to appear in Jefferson Circuit Court on Nov. 2.
