Three House committees working together for answers on Hunter Biden investigation

The chairmen of the House Judiciary, Oversight, and Ways and Means committees issued a joint statement on their commitment to pursuing an investigation into misconduct at the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service surrounding the Hunter Biden investigation.

Chairmen Jim Jordan (R-OH), James Comer (R-KY), and Jason Smith (R-MO) said their committees will work in tandem to pursue an inquiry into the Justice Department interfering in the Hunter Biden criminal investigation.

BIDEN MAY BUCK BIPARTISAN VOTE TO KEEP MORTGAGE OVERHAUL IN PLACE

This follows testimony to the Ways and Means Committee from two IRS whistleblowers that the Department of Justice blocked David Weiss, the lead U.S. attorney on the Hunter Biden investigation, from bringing charges in the district of his choice and concealed information of foreign bribery allegations from investigators on the case.

Members of the House Oversight Committee have viewed an unverified FBI-generated FD-1023 document that alleges that Hunter Biden and then-Vice President Joe Biden each received $5 million bribes from the head of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma to pressure the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor who was investigating the company. At the time, Hunter Biden sat on the board of the company.

The DOJ has stated that Hunter Biden plans to plead guilty to three federal charges, two misdemeanors, and one felony, and will likely skirt jail time.

The chairmen called the interference and Hunter Biden’s plea deal a “mockery of the core American value of equal Justice under the law.”

“Politicization and misconduct at the Department of Justice and IRS during the investigation into Hunter Biden reveal a two-tiered system of justice and unequal application of the law. According to whistleblower testimony, the Justice Department refused to follow evidence that implicated Joe Biden, tipped off Hunter Biden’s attorneys, allowed the clock to run out with respect to certain charges, and put tax-cheat Hunter Biden on the path towards a sweetheart plea deal,” the chairmen said in a statement.

This plea deal has infuriated Republicans who believe the DOJ has been weaponized against members of their party while giving preferential treatment to Democrats.

“This weaponization of the federal law-enforcement power to benefit the Bidens adds to Americans’ growing mistrust in our institutions,” their statement reads. “If we are to remain a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, Congress has a duty to conduct rigorous oversight of this abuse of power and hold bad actors accountable.”

“Our committees are pursuing a thorough investigation into this misconduct to deliver the transparency and accountability that the American people demand and deserve,” they concluded.
