What you missed during the tumultuous House hearing on Thursday night

.

A contentious war of words between Democrats and Republicans broke out Thursday night as Republicans advanced a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.

The House Oversight Committee was meeting Thursday evening before it devolved into chaos.

Democrats attack MTG for asking about Judge Juan Merchan

Democrats attacked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) after she asked if any Democrats on the committee employed the daughter of one of the judges overseeing one of former President Donald Trump’s court cases.

“I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge Merchan’s daughter,” Greene asked.

“Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) fired back.

“Oh, Goldman, that’s right. He’s advising,” Greene said, ignoring Crockett’s question.

“Do you know what we’re here for?” Crockett asked Greene. “You know we’re here for AG.”

A battle of insults breaks out between Crockett, MTG, and AOC

After the back-and-forth between Crockett and Greene, things became heated after Greene responded to Crockett.

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene said.

“Well, you the one talking about —,” Crockett replied before Greene interrupted.

“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” Greene said.

Chaos ensued after Greene’s comments, with Democrats barking at Republicans and Republicans barking at Democrats.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) jumped into the fray by condemning Greene’s words a few moments later.

“I do have a point of order, and I would like to move to take down Miss Greene’s words,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “That is absolutely unacceptable. How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person.”

“Are your feelings hurt?” Greene asked.

“Remove her words down,” Ocasio-Cortez exclaimed.

“Aww,” Greene responded.

“Oh girl, baby girl,” Ocasio-Cortez fired back. “Don’t even play.”

“We are going to move, and we are going to take your words down,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

MTG asks AOC to debate her

After a brief recess, the session resumed, and Greene said she would strike her words from when Ocasio-Cortez interrupted and demanded an apology. Greene refused, to which Ocasio-Cortez said the words would not be taken down.

“Why don’t you debate me?” Greene asked.

“I think it’s pretty self-evident,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence,” Greene replied.

Ocasio-Cortez then asked to strike those words from the record.

“Oh, they cannot take the words,” Greene said.

Crockett’s revenge

After another brief recess, Crockett called a point of order and asked House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) for clarification.

“I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling,” Crockett said. “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach-blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) then entered the ruckus, demanding Crockett’s words be removed from the record.

Crockett then exploded and launched a verbal tirade against Luna, shouting and using profanity.

“Calm down, please calm down,” Luna said. “You’re out of control.”
