End of an era: Pat Sajak says goodbye to ‘Wheel of Fortune’ fans

It’s the end of an era. Pat Sajak is signing off Friday for the last time after decades of hosting the iconic game show, “Wheel of Fortune.”
For four decades and more than 8,000 episodes, we’ve welcomed Sajak into our homes and hearts and he’s never disappointed.
Over the years, Mississippians have made the trip to Hollywood in hopes of cashing in, like Stephen Sanders, of Brandon, who won $18,450. Sanders took his prize money to his mom to finish renovating her home.
It’s hard to forget Christen White, the math teacher who took us all to school. Pat Sajak said she took home the Top 10 best smile. You can imagine that it’s hard not to smile ear to ear in the presence of a TV legend.
Each night, we watched the big wins, the sometimes-questionable guesses and the host who defined a gameshow era.
“It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade,” Sajak said. “Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”
“Wheel of Fortune” airs weekdays at 6:30 p.m. on 16 WAPT.
