Police in an area of Cardiff have been given extra powers to anti-social behaviour after an increase in violence. The order covers part of Butetown and is in place until 9.08pm on Monday, July 8..

The order was granted under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014. Under Section 35 of the act, police officers can instruct anybody who is causing, or is likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to leave the area as illustrated in the map below.

During this time, officers will also have the power to seize any property which officers suspect is being used to cause anti-social behaviour. South Wales Police said the order is a preventative measure following increased reports of anti-social behaviour. For the latest Cardiff news, sign up to our newsletter here

There have been several such orders in the area in recent months. One of these included a believed assault on a man in Cardiff Bay. The force said during the early hours of Sunday officers attending a report of anti-social behaviour in James Street, Cardiff Bay, found an injured man in the road.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We have a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour. This dispersal order is just one example of the work we are doing."
