A part of the M4 was shut leading to huge traffic tailbacks after a man fell out of a car and onto the hard shoulder. Emergency services were called to a section of the motorway between junction 49 at Pont Abraham and junction 48 at Hendy late on Monday afternoon - July 8.
Both eastbound and westbound sides were closed at different times due to separate incidents happening on different sides of the motorway, causing congestion stretching along the M4 and westwards along the A48 towards Cross Hands. A two-vehicle crash happened on the westbound carriageway at around 4.20pm, leading to one lane being blocked. A short time later, the eastbound stretch was totally closed due to an "incident" - which police have now confirmed revolved around a man falling from his car.

He was taken to hospital with injuries but they are not considered to be life-threatening, while nobody was injured in the earlier crash. The two incidents caused around two hours of traffic congestion on both sides of the M4 between Pont Abraham and Hendy, with motorists advised to take alternative routes such as the A48 or the B4306.
All lanes on both sides of the M4 were re-opened by around 6.30pm on Monday, with traffic returning to normal a short time later. A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We attended reports of an incident on the M4 eastbound just off Junction 49 at Pont Abraham. A man had fallen out of a vehicle and onto the hard shoulder. The man was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening."
