'Trespass incident' causes major train delays across south Wales

A "trespass incident" near Cardiff Central caused delays on main train lines on Friday afternoon. National Rail warned that a number of Great Western Railway and Transport for Wales services were being affected.

Disruption of up to 35 minutes was reported on Great Western Railway services between Carmarthen/Swansea and London Paddington.

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Cardiff Central railway station at 12.31pm today (5 July) to reports of a trespasser on the line. Officers attended and a man was taken to a place of safety."

Some disruption continues

The situation is improving with National Rail saying that trains may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 15 minutes whilst service recovers.

Addin: "We expect this to continue until 3pm."

Update from police

A spokesperson from British Transport has given an update on the situation.

She said: "Officers were called to the line near Cardiff Central railway station at 12.31 today (5 July) to reports of a trespasser on the line. Officers attended and a man was taken to a place of safety."

Delays of up to 35 minutes

National Rail says; "Trains are returning to normal between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street / Ebbw Vale Town / Newport (South Wales) following a trespass incident near Cardiff Central."

Adding: "Trains may still be cancelled or delayed by up to 35 minutes whilst service recovers.

"We expect this to continue until 4pm."
