BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Common sense has prevailed.

We're referring to the 9News investigation into the Gonzales lingerie store that was accepting welfare benefits as payment for the store's sexy clothing and other adult novelty items.

Our Tyana Williams interviewed state officials and was initially told that the state couldn't do anything about this practice, that this was a federal program. That answer didn't sit well with us and many of you didn't like it either.

Fortunately, state leaders have had second thoughts about their first response on this matter, issuing an emergency rule to correct something that should have never been allowed to happen. A state lawmaker says he'll follow up with legislation to permanently outlaw this practice.

It's this type of sloppy government that unfairly gives legitimate welfare programs a bad name.

That's "Our Turn." Now, it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, visit us on Facebook or send an email to yourturn@wafb.com.
