MARINGOUIN, LA (WAFB) - A father and son have pled guilty to leading a hunter to an unauthorized area to kill an alligator.

According to reports, Larry Dees Sr., 66, and Larry Dees Jr., 37, took a sport hunter out on September 10, 2009. The hunter killed a 9'4" gator on the trip.

The men face up to a year in prison each and a $200,000 fine.

Both men have agreed to being banned from hunting for a year and for two years after that, they will be prohibited from gator hunting.

The elder Dees has been licensed since 1992 and his son has been licensed since 2002.

Laws require that licensed alligator helpers must have hide tags for the property on which they are hunting and must put a tag on a gator after killing it. Each tag is specific to a specific parcel of land.
