PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) - A 17-year-old is facing charges after investigators say he discharged a gun inside a vehicle, hitting a man and killing him.

The Port Allen Police Department arrested the male teenager, who was a passenger in the car, on Monday, July 8, and charged with one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide.

Police announced later today that the teen, Lawrence Williams, will be tried as an adult.

Investigation began on Sunday, July 7, around 7:15 p.m. when officers received a call from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office about a man being delivered to OLOL Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound.
