EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - One of the candidates under consideration to become the new superintendent of East Baton Rouge Parish Schools has backed out as a finalist.

Krish Mohip no longer wants to be considered for the position, leaving two remaining finalists. They are Kevin George and Andrea Zayas. George is the director of University Laboratory School at LSU, while Zayas was most recently the executive director of a teacher pathway program in Boston.

The candidates were set to go before a superintendent search panel Monday, July 8, for interviews. A spokesman for the school system said the interviews are still happening, but Mohip will not participate. They are taking place at the Professional Development Center on North Sherwood Forest Drive in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Seventeen people were initially in the running to become superintendent, but the list of candidates was narrowed down.

Interim Superintendent Adam Smith was one of the candidates up for consideration. However, he was not chosen as a finalist during a meeting on Friday, June 28, despite getting support from a majority of community members at the meeting.
