National HIV Testing Day event in Baton Rouge offering free testing services

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - June 27 is observed as National HIV Testing Day.

In an effort to spread awareness, the Baton Rouge AIDS Society (BRASS) announced it will offer free HIV testing.

The groups says the community is invited to take advantage of the services from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday at the BRASS office located at 646 North Foster Drive.

In light of recent data from the Louisiana Department of Health, Baton Rouge ranks fifth in the state for HIV diagnosis rates, with 22 new diagnoses per 100,000 people reported in the third quarter of 2023. Additionally, as of 2021, Baton Rouge had a significant number of residents living with HIV, with a prevalence rate of 1,104 per 100,000 people.

Early detection and treatment are critical steps in managing and reducing HIV transmission.
