Second Slidell High teacher arrested in ongoing investigation into inappropriate relationship with student
SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - A continuing investigation into former Slidell High School teacher Alexa Wingerter has resulted in additional charges and the arrest of another teacher, Shelby Cavignac.
Wingerter, 35, became the subject of an investigation in early March 2024 for alleged inappropriate relationships with male students and sending inappropriate photographs and messages via cell phone and social media. She was arrested in late April.

Multiple search warrants were executed following her arrest, uncovering evidence implicating Cavignac, 31, in similar inappropriate relationships with students. Further evidence also indicated Wingerter had inappropriate relations with additional students who had not initially been identified.
A warrant was issued for Cavignac for having prohibited sexual conduct with a student. Wingerter received three new warrants: two counts of prohibited sexual conduct with a student and one for indecent behavior with a juvenile. Both were arrested Wednesday and booked into the Slidell City Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
