SLIDELL, La. (WVUE) - A 31-year-old man has been arrested after police say hidden cameras were found in his home in Slidell and his condo in Orange Beach, Alabama.

According to the Slidell Police Department, Jonathan Bethacourt was booked into jail on 11 counts of video voyeurism after his nanny, Alyssa Glavan, reported finding a camera disguised as a smoke detector in a guest bathroom at his home.

Glavan, who had worked for Bethacourt for about six months, discovered the hidden camera and immediately contacted police.

“It was right in front of the toilet!” Glavan exclaimed.

Police were notified in late May by a babysitter who reportedly found a camera disguised as a smoke detector in a guest bathroom at his home.

“I mean this man, they put me in their payroll. They have everything down to my social security number. So, I’m like, what are they doing with everything? What is he going to do? If you think about it, his life is pretty much over based on everything that they found,” Glavan said.

After reporting the camera to the police, Glavan ignored Bethacourt’s calls until he contacted her using his twin brother’s phone. “When I answered it, I didn’t know who it was. And I heard his voice and I kind of freaked out, and that’s when I texted the detective and asked what do I do?” she said.

Glavan also noted that Bethacourt had frequently made her uncomfortable with his behavior. “He always gave me weird vibes. He would flirt with me and say weird things. Kind of come hang out in the living room on the couch when I was in there,” she recalled.

The police advised her to record the call if she felt comfortable, during which Bethacourt admitted to the hidden camera and even offered to pay her off.

A search of Bethancourt’s home turned up an additional hidden camera “as well as other incriminating evidence,” Chief Daniel Seuzeneau reported.

Seuzeneau says investigators are combing through “substantial amounts of video evidence” and have identified multiple victims between the two locations.

Seuzeneau says there is no evidence suggesting that Bethancourt had cameras anywhere else.

Additional charges are expected.

Bethancourt was booked into jail on May 29 and has since posted bond.
